Bharathakala Kutiram, a premiere Bharathanatyam academy located in North San Jose, was founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Smt. Jayanthi Sridharan. The school’s main charter is to spread the divine art of Bharathanatyam. Students are taught Bharathanatyam with strict adherence to Kalakshetra traditions. Under the able tutelage of Smt. Jayanthi Sridharan, the school has earned a reputation for its perfect rendition and coordinated presentations.
Students of Bharathakala Kutiram perform at all major community events in the Bay Area. These include, but are not limited to, Arudhra Natyanjali, Navaratri Natyothsav, and other such similar events. The school has also won several awards at annual OSAAT competitions.
Bharathakala Kutiram has presented major productions all over North America and in India. The school has a strong belief in giving back, and has held benefit performances for non-profits such as the Cancer Institute Foundation and Sankara Eye Foundation. Some of the school’s major productions include Samarpanam, Nala Damayanthi, Maitreem Bhajatha, and most recently, Guru Prema.
Smt. Jayanthi Sridharan’s dedication to teaching and nurturing the talent and passion in her students has resulted in excellent student retention for the school. The school has nearly 30 graduates, with most students continuing to learn and perform decades after the completion of their Arangetram. The school is unique in its emphasis that an Arangetram is not an ending, rather it’s a beginning.
